Payment and Repayment Options

NRIs can remit funds through authorized banking channels or use their NRE/NRO or FCNR accounts for transactions. If financing is needed, RBI permits banks and housing finance institutions to provide loans to NRIs for residential properties. All payments must be made in Indian currency, and loan disbursements are directed to the seller’s or developer’s bank account.

Joint Ownership

NRIs can purchase property in their name or jointly with another NRI, but cannot co-own with resident Indians or non-eligible individuals.

Power of Attorney (POA)

A POA allows NRIs to appoint a trusted individual to handle property transactions on their behalf. This can be arranged at the Indian Embassy by signing the necessary documents in front of a consulate officer.

Additional Documents for POA

  • A photograph
  • Left thumb impression
